Ethnic background and culture is an important demographic variable for tourism and hospitality because cultural norms and customs influence: the types of food and food preparation, attitudes towards travel and holidays, and destinations. Types of travel are also perhaps determined by ethnicity and culture as visiting friends and relatives or ‘roots’/genealogy trips account for many trips taken.
